Pups are normally born in the early part of the year, and when they are weaned they are walked by various supporters of the hunt.  This is where supporters who do not necessarily ride  can add their support, and teach these very inquisitive  young animals a little bit about life before they enter the pack, normally in the following autumn.

Each year new puppies are bred, and it is a very careful process.  The right sire must be matched to the dam to produce a hound suitable to hunt the country to which it belongs.  Simon bought some of his hounds with him from Ireland and they seemed to cope with the heavy Essex Clay quite well.
